Top Ten Authors New to Me in 2014

So, looking over the books I have read so far this year, I am disturbed to find that I really did not read many new authors!  I feel shame and will try better in 2015!

1.  Hannah Kent- Burial Rites

2.  Graeme Simsion- The Rosie Project

3. Gabrielle Zevin- The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry

4. Beatriz Williams- The Secret Life of Violet Grant

5. Matthew Thomas- We Are Not Ourselves

6.  Lois Lowry- The Giver

7.  Monica McInerney- Hello From the Gillespies

8. Sherman Alexie- The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian

9.  Andra Watkins-To Live Forever- An Afterlife Journey of Meriwether Lewis

10.  Priya Parmar- Vanessa and Her Sister

Can you recommend a new author for me?

  1. The only book on this list that I’ve read is The Giver. But, I am dying to read Burial Rites. I’ve heard that it’s pretty great. I also want to read The Rosie Project and The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry. This is a great list! I’m not sure what authors you’ve read, but I recommend Jodi Picoult and Jojo Moyes!

  2. I read The Giver this year for the first time and loved it too. I thought it was the first Lois Lowry I had read until I realised that she wrote the Anastasia Krupnik books which I loved when I was a kid!

  3. I loved Burial Rites, and A. J. Fikry is one of my all-time favorites! Someone else had recommended a Beatriz Willams book to me — I need to check it out!

  4. Burial Rites was SUCH a fantastic book – so great that you were able to discover it this year! And The Giver is one of my all time favorites. I pick it up every few years and have been doing so since I was in elementary school. Glad it ended up being a good read even as an adult!
