Top Ten Covers I would Redesign
This was a challenge for me. I really don’t pay THAT much attention to covers that I don’t like. I have been known to pick up a book because I DO like the cover, but I usually don’t mind a bad one. I did however find a few that I didn’t care for. Here they are-
1. She’s Come Undone by Wally Lamb
I just think this is weird. Why is half of her face floating above the water? A bit too “Dahli” for me.
2. Carrie by Stephen King
It might be in German-but WTF??
3. Summerland by Elin Hilderbrand
I know- looks like a cool cover- fun, beachy, friends. Totally fine until you know that the story is about a terrible car accidents that rips the lives of four teenagers apart. Not exactly what the cover conveys?
4. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum
All I see is the Lion- wearing glasses? Why is he wearing glasses??
5. Bridget Jones’ Diary by Helen Fielding
It’s just weird.
6. The Same Cover-Different Books
Why use the same idea for different books? They’re not sequels, so why?
7. Movie Version Covers
I do not want to picture these people. I want to come up with my own picture in my head- exception to this rule was Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn. And Orlando Bloom as Legolas.
What covers do you wish you could change?
You chose some good ones to change.
I can’t think of any at the moment, but I am drawn in by covers.
THANKS for sharing, and have a great day.

Movie version covers are the worst!
Totally agree about movie covers. I’ll never buy these versions. Except for covers with Viggo Mortenson. As you said, he gets to be the exception to the rule! Nice list — this week was a hard topic for me!
Nice list! I also really dislike movie version covers. It sucks when that’s the only cover available.
Movie covers are definitely the worst! But! I somehow acquired a copy of The Razor’s Edge that is the movie edition, so Bill Murray is on the cover. I’m okay with that one.
I really hate the movie tie in covers too. You made me laugh out loud with “I know it’s German but WTF?”
I hate the movie covers as well! I suppose they are good if it gets a non-reader to read, but I would rather have the original cover.
I actually have that copy of “The Wizard of Oz” that you’ve posted. I think it is charming as it is a product of the era. Covers say a lot about a book. Nice list this week. kelley—the road goes ever ever on
You have some winners here. Bridget Jones’s Diary is especially unfortunate. I absolutely agree about movie tie-in covers, I can’t stand them.
Loving your choice of covers to change. I especially like the three different books with the same cover! and the Wizard of Oz is just plain weird!
Nice list, I assumed that the other ones after the devil wears prada wear sequels because of the cover, oh well maybe that’s what they were going for.
Bridget Jone’s Diary’s cover drives me crazy. And that is insane all those book with the shoes. i would have assumed they were sequels.
I know- but they’re not! Totally different stories.
I really like that Wizard of Oz cover, so I felt like I was entitled to butt in and explain that it depicts a direct scene from the story! Everyone has to wear glasses to be allowed inside the Emerald City. To protect their eyesight from the glory and shine of the city. Right. Nor that the city isn’t really green or anything.
Of course, that doesn’t explain why the lion takes up so much cover space. Maybe the Oz groomers felt so proud of their work that they decided to upgrade him to cover girl.
Oh My Word, that first Carrie cover was just BAD.
Thanks for dropping by my TTT
I have that cover of Carrie. I think it’s pretty cool because that was exactly the style of book covers at that time. The cover of She’s Come Undone however, makes me want to run away screaming.

Definitely have to change that Bridget Jones one and Carrie is just too weird looking! Do you have any favourite covers you wouldn’t want to change?
I actually like most covers, and there are definitely come I really love- but this topic was hard for me since I don’t usually find them to be a problem.
Oooh. What a great list! The She’s Come Undone cover, even though I didn’t like or finish the book, is pretty creepy.
